Help with unsending and editing messages, expiry, taking back attachments, comet threads, importing mail, passkeys, custom domains and billing. Real people in Valencia reply within hours.
How to unsend a message
Open Sent, find the message and tap Reel it in. As long as nobody has opened it and the string hasn’t run out, it comes straight back to your drafts, ready to fix or delete.
Your string is 30 minutes on Diamond and up to 2 hours on Delta and Festival. The time left is shown on every sent message, so you always know where you stand.
If one person in a group has already opened the message, it’s reeled back from everyone who hasn’t. You’ll see exactly who read it before you pressed the button.
Change your default string length
Go to Settings → Sending → String length and choose 10 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour or 2 hours. Diamond goes up to 30 minutes; Delta and Festival go all the way to 2 hours.
To give one message a different string, tap the kite next to Send and pick a length for that message only.
Edit a message after sending
Open the message in Sent and tap Edit. You have 24 hours on every plan. Change the words, fix a date or correct a link, then tap Update.
Recipients always see the newest version with a small “edited” note, so nobody is misled about what was said. You can compare it with the original from the same menu.
Set a message to expire
In the composer, tap the comet icon and choose 1 hour, 1 day, 1 week or a date of your own. The message shows its expiry to everyone who receives it.
When the time comes, the message disappears from every inbox and is erased from our servers and backups within 30 days. Expiring messages are part of Delta and Festival.
Expiry can’t undo a screenshot or a copy someone made before then, so keep truly sensitive details on a short string and a short expiry.
Take back an attachment
Open the sent message and tap Take it back next to the file. The link stops working immediately, for everyone, including people who already opened the preview.
Changed your mind? Tap Restore link and it works again, as long as the message itself hasn’t expired. Taking back attachments is part of Delta and Festival.
Reading a comet thread
The head of the comet is the newest message, burning brightest. Every earlier message trails behind it in order, oldest at the tip of the tail.
Tap any point on the tail to jump straight to that message, without scrolling through everything in between. On a keyboard, press J and K to fly along the tail.
Catch up on a long thread
Unread messages glow gold on the tail, so you can see at a glance how much you’ve missed and who said it. Tap the first gold point to start where you left off.
Threads with more than 50 messages fold their oldest part into one point. Tap it to unfold the rest of the tail.
Import from Gmail, Outlook or iCloud
Go to Settings → Import, choose your old provider and sign in there. We bring over your mail, contacts and labels in the background, and you can keep using Cometamail while it runs.
Most mailboxes arrive in under an hour; ten years of Gmail can take an evening. We email you when everything has landed, and nothing is removed from your old account.
Forward your old address here
After importing, switch on forwarding at your old provider so new mail keeps arriving here. Our import screen shows the exact steps for Gmail, Outlook and iCloud.
Forwarded mail is labelled with the address it was sent to, so you can tell your contacts about your new address gradually, or never.
Sending to people on other providers
Messages to Gmail, Outlook and other providers arrive as a normal email with a short preview and a secure link to the full message. That’s how unsend, edit and expiry keep working.
The recipient doesn’t need an account or a password to read it. They just open the link. If you’d rather send a plain copy that can’t be reeled back, turn off Keep the string in the composer.
Set up a passkey
Go to Settings → Security → Passkeys and choose Add passkey. Your phone or computer will ask for your fingerprint, face or screen lock, and that’s it.
From then on, sign in with one tap. Passkeys can’t be phished or reused, and you can add one for every device you use.
Reset a forgotten password
On the sign-in page, tap Forgot? and enter your Cometamail address. We send a six-digit code to your recovery email; it’s valid for 15 minutes.
No longer have access to your recovery email? Write to help@cometamail.com from any address and our team in Valencia will confirm it’s you and help you back in.
Use your own domain
On Delta or Festival, go to Settings → Domains and type the domain you own. We show you the exact records to add at your domain provider, and check them for you as you go.
Most domains are ready in about ten minutes. Your @cometamail.com address keeps working alongside your own domain.
Change or cancel your plan
Go to Settings → Plan. Upgrades apply straight away and you pay only the difference; downgrades apply at the end of the period you’ve paid for.
Monthly plans can be cancelled anytime. Yearly plans cancelled within 14 days are refunded in full.
Export or delete your data
Go to Settings → Privacy → Export to download all of your mail and contacts in standard formats that any other email app can read.
To close your account, choose Delete account on the same page. Your mailbox is erased within 30 days, and from our backups within a further 30.
