Cookie Policy
cometamail.com sets no cookies at all. The web app uses one strictly necessary cookie to keep you signed in. No advertising, analytics or social cookies.
About this policy
This Cookie Policy explains how Cometamail S.L., Carrer de la Pau 18, 46002 València, Spain, CIF B12345678 (“Cometamail”, “we” or “us”), uses cookies and similar technologies on the website cometamail.com and in the Cometamail web app, in accordance with article 22.2 of Law 34/2002 of 11 July on information society services and electronic commerce (“LSSI-CE”), article 5.3 of Directive 2002/58/EC, Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (the “GDPR”) and the guidance on cookies published by the Agencia Española de Protección de Datos.
Cookies are small text files that a website stores on your device so that it can recognise the device later. Similar technologies, such as local storage, pixels and device fingerprinting, work in comparable ways. In this policy, “cookies” includes those technologies.
This policy should be read together with our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle personal data more generally.
Our website: no cookies
Our public website, cometamail.com, including the home page, the pricing page, the help centre and these legal pages, does not set any cookies on your device and does not read any from it. It does not use analytics services, advertising or social media pixels, embedded third-party content or fingerprinting.
The fonts, images and scripts on our website are served from our own domain, so visiting the site does not cause your browser to contact advertising or analytics companies.
Like any web server, ours records technical information about each request, such as the IP address and the page requested, so that it can deliver the site and protect it against attacks. These logs do not involve cookies and are deleted after 14 days, as described in our Privacy Policy.
The one cookie: cm_session
When you sign in to the Cometamail web app, we set one first-party cookie. Name: cm_session. Provider: Cometamail S.L. Purpose: to keep you signed in securely as you move around the app and to protect your session against misuse. Type: strictly necessary technical cookie. Duration: it is deleted when you sign out, and it expires automatically after 30 days without activity.
The cm_session cookie contains a random identifier that has no meaning outside our systems. It is marked Secure, so it is only sent over encrypted connections, and HttpOnly, so it cannot be read by scripts running in your browser. It is not used to track you, to measure your use of the app for analytics or for advertising, and it is never shared with anyone.
If you sign in on a shared or public computer, remember to sign out when you have finished, which deletes the cookie straight away.
Preferences on your device
The web app uses your browser’s local storage to remember interface preferences, such as your kite colour, your default string length, your reading layout and whether you have dismissed a tip. This information stays on your device, is not used to track you and cannot be read by other websites.
Our mobile and desktop apps store similar preferences, and the data needed to show your mail when you are offline, in the storage provided by your device’s operating system.
These preferences are stored because you ask for them when you choose a setting, and storing them is strictly necessary to provide the feature you have requested. You can remove them at any time by clearing your browser’s site data for cometamail.com, and the app will then use its default settings.
Why there’s no banner
Under article 22.2 of the LSSI-CE, consent is required before information is stored on or read from your device, except where this is strictly necessary to provide an information society service that you have expressly requested. The cm_session cookie and the preferences kept in local storage fall within this exemption, because they are needed to keep you signed in and to apply the settings you choose.
Because we do not use analytics, advertising, personalisation or social media cookies, or any other cookies that require consent, we do not show a cookie consent banner. We publish this policy so that you have clear and complete information about the cookies we do use.
If we ever decide to use a cookie that requires consent, we will update this policy first and ask for your consent before setting it, with the option to refuse shown as prominently as the option to accept.
Trackers in your mail
Many marketing emails contain tracking pixels, invisible images or unique links that tell the sender when, where and on what device a message was opened. Cometamail removes known tracking pixels from incoming mail before a message is displayed, and the web app loads remote images through our own servers, so that senders do not receive your IP address or learn when you opened their message.
Messages you send to people on other providers contain a secure link to the full message. When a recipient opens it, we record that it has been opened, so that we can tell you and apply your unsend settings, as described in our Privacy Policy. We do not set cookies on the recipient’s device and do not track them in any other way.
Managing cookies
You can view, block and delete cookies in your browser’s settings. Instructions are available in the help pages of the most common browsers, including Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge.
If you block or delete the cm_session cookie, our website will work normally, but you will not be able to sign in to the web app or to stay signed in. If you clear local storage, your interface preferences will return to their default settings.
Changes and contact
We may update this Cookie Policy if we change the cookies we use or if the law changes. The date at the top of this policy shows when it was last updated, and if we make significant changes we will also tell signed-in users in the app.
If you have any questions about this policy or about how we use cookies, write to privacy@cometamail.com or to Cometamail S.L., Carrer de la Pau 18, 46002 València, Spain.
